I get asked this often, very often. The truth is, small waist comes as a result of a number of factors, some of which are related to the way we train, others to the way we eat and last, but not least – genetics. In this article I will try to give you tips on how to lower your waist size and try to maintain it all-year round.

Diet

The most influential factor for lowering waist circumference is properly managing our nutrition. The reason why most waistlines are big is the simple fact that there is too much fat around surrounding it. In order to get rid of the subcutaneous fat you must maintain a healthy diet that is moderate of healthy fats, high in protein and low in carbohydrates. A typical fat loss diet is always either low on carbs or switching between high and low carbs. The reason for this is that low carbs facilitate more effective and quick fat burning by creating a proper environment for this. I suggest you maintain a low carb diet in order to lower body fat levels and make your waistline smaller. This is the first and most important step towards this goal.

Supplements

Certain supplements such as Omega-3 fats, Yohimbine, CLA, green tea extract and others help reduce the waist size, not only by promoting overall fat loss, but also by triggering specific mechanisms that allow the fat to be burned in the problem areas of the body. In my personal programs I have recommended instructions for those and others.

Training

In order to influence your waist size you have to structure your workouts in such a way as to focus on the oblique muscles and lower abs the most. Those areas are very important, because normally fat tends to go away very hard from those areas. The more you train the abdominal muscles – the more blood flow will be activated there, which leads to improved fatty acid release and thyroid (fat burning) hormone permeability.

Genetics

Genetics plays an important role in the way our abs are structured and how is our waist proportioned compared to the rest of the body. We can’t change our genetic structure, but hard work over a long period of time proves to always outperform our genetic limitations. Make sure you focus on your goal, have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and work for it – no matter what.

So that’s the overall picture on how to keep your waist small. It’s your turn now!
